whereas the officials belonging to that department may make inspections of undertakings in accordance with this Regulation;

In point 3 of the text referring to Australia, the name of the inspection body "Australian Quarantine Inspection Service (AQIS)" is replaced by: "Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) (Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry)"

whereas the purpose of such checks, to be carried out by establishments under the supervision and responsibility of the official department and with periodic inspection by the official department, is to ensure compliance with the requirements of Directive 85/397/EEC and in particular those laid down in Article 3 (A) (3) thereof;

Member States shall assign the task of coordinating the implementation of the inspections provided for in this Chapter, which are carried out within their national territory, to a central public department or body.

Access to the tariff quota shall be conditional on presentation, when the goods are released for free circulation, of a rice inspection services certificate completed in accordance with the model set out in Annex II and issued by the Federal Grain Inspection Service of the United States Department of Agriculture.

the wood shall be kiln dried over a period of time sufficient to achieve a minimum core temperature of 56 °C for 30 minutes in a kiln tested and approved for this purpose by an official grading/inspection bureau approved for this purpose by the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, US Department of Agriculture;

the wood shall be manufactured at sawmills or treated at appropriate premises approved and qualified by the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, US Department of Agriculture to participate in the kiln dried lumber programme;

the inspections referred to under Article 1(a) as regards organisation of the work and, more generally, relations with the departments involved in the measures, by the department designated by the Member State pursuant to Article 4(1);

a checking system to ensure that the conditions laid down under (b) and (c) are satisfied shall be set up by the official grading agencies, qualified and authorized for that purpose under a programme approved and controlled by the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, US Department of Agriculture;

to examine any matter referred to it by a Member State which, following inspections pursuant to Article 9 of Regulation (EEC) No 729/70 and bilateral discussion of the findings of such inspections, receives formal notification from the competent Commission departments, with reference to this Decision, of the conclusion that certain items of expenditure incurred by that Member State are not chargeable to the EAGGF Guarantee Section,

The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Department of Fisheries - Fish Inspection and Quality Control Division - (FIQCD) shall be the competent authority in Thailand for verifying and certifying that bivalve molluscs, echinoderms, tunicates and marine gastropods fulfil the requirements of Directive 91/492/EEC.

as regards organisation of the work and relations with the departments and, where appropriate, the debtors involved in the inspection, these agents shall, prior to any on-the-spot inspections, establish the necessary contacts with the officials designated by the Member State concerned in accordance with Article 4(2);

compliance with the requirements laid down in Annex IV, part A, Section I, point 1.4 to the said Directive shall have been checked by graders who are trained, qualified and authorized for that purpose under a programme approved and controlled by the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, US Department of Agriculture;

Whereas legislation of Australia makes the 'Department of Primary Industries and Energy - Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service - (AQIS)` responsible for inspecting the health of live bivalve molluscs, echinoderms, tunicates and marine gastropods and for monitoring the hygiene and sanitary conditions of production;

The Member States shall ensure that the departments or agencies responsible for establishing, collecting and making available their own resources, and the authorities which they have instructed to carry out the controls and inspections thereon, afford the authorised agents every assistance necessary for carrying out their duties.

Whereas Regulation (EC) No 723/97 provides specifically that the Community may contribute to the financing of certain expenditure incurred by the Member States for the initial costs of the creation or reorganization of inspection services and the cost of training, briefing and equipping the staff of the departments involved in the reinforcement measures;

Without prejudice to the audits carried out by the Court of Auditors in liaison with the competent national audit bodies or departments pursuant to Article 248 of the Treaty, or any inspection carried out pursuant to Article 279(c) of the Treaty, officials and other staff of the Commission may carry out on-the-spot checks, including sample checks, on projects financed under LIFE.

the wood shall be accompanied by a 'Heat treatment certificate using kiln facility' which is standardized under the programme mentioned under (a), and complies with the specimen given in the Annex to this Decision, and which is issued by an authorized person on behalf of mills to participate in that programme approved by the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, US Department of Agriculture.

Exemption from checks shall be granted, at the request of the trader concerned, by the inspection departments or agencies appointed by the competent national authorities of either the Member State of production, for bananas marketed in the Community production region, or the Member State of unloading, for Community bananas marketed elsewhere in the Community and bananas imported from third countries.
