Whereas Council Regulation (EEC) No 1250/77 of 17 May 1977 concerning imports of rice from the Arab Republic of Egypt (2) should be repealed accordingly,

The list of officially registered exporters established by the competent Egyptian authorities shall have been made available to the Commission prior to 1 February 1998;

'European Economic Interest Grouping (EEIG)' means any legal entity established in accordance with Council Regulation (EEC) No 2137/85(1);

'the Mediterranean Area' means Cyprus, Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey and ex-Yugoslavia,

The Contracting Parties recognize that the fact that certain areas of cooperation are envisaged under the Agreement concluded between the Community and Egypt does not prevent any of the Member States from agreeing bilaterally with Egypt to undertake cooperation projects in the same fields.

This condition shall not apply, however, to products which, within the meaning of this Protocol, originate in the Community;

Moreover Egypt confirmed that improved measures are taken against exporters who violate Egyptian instructions on the export of potatoes destined to the EU;

Additional Protocol to the Cooperation Agreement between the European Economic Community and the Arab Republic of Egypt (OJ No L 297, 21. 10. 1987, p. 10);

Whereas the Cooperation Agreement between the European Economic Community and the Arab Republic of Egypt signed at Brussels on 18 January 1977 should be concluded,

amending Council Regulation (EC) No 747/2001 as regards the Community tariff quotas and reference quantities for certain agricultural products originating in Egypt

The Additional Protocol to the Cooperation Agreement between the European Economic Community and the Arab Republic of Egypt is hereby approved on behalf of the Community.

The mission revealed that significant steps to improve the controls on peanuts exported to the European Union had been made by the Egyptian authorities.

- the arrangements applied by the Community in respect of Egypt shall not give rise to any discrimination between Egyptian nationals, companies or firms.

The Commission considered it appropriate to introduce a more rigorous visual inspection of consignments of potatoes immediately prior to export at the port of dispatch in Egypt.

during the import season 1998/1999 there have been again a number of interceptions of Pseudomonas solanacearum (Smith) Smith on imports of potatoes originating in Egypt;

Cases of Pseudomonas solanacearum (Smith) Smith continued to be found in imports of potatoes originating in Egypt during 1998/1999, and as a consequence the import into Community territory of tubers of Solanum tuberosum L. originating in Egypt was prohibited between 3 April 1999 and the beginning of the 1999/2000 import season.

for fishery products from Egypt and intended for export to the European Community, excluding bivalve molluscs, echinoderms, tunicates and marine gastropods in whatever form

(1) An inspection has been carried out on behalf of the Commission in Egypt to verify the conditions under which fishery products are produced, stored and dispatched to the Community.

Cases of Pseudomonas solanacearum (Smith) Smith continued to be found in imports of potatoes originating in Egypt during 1998/99, and as a consequence the import into the territory of the Community of tubers of Solanum tuberosum L. originating in Egypt was prohibited between 3 April 1999 and the beginning of the 1999/ 2000 import season.

those duties actually applied in respect of Egypt on 1 January 1975 pursuant to the provisions of Annex I to the Agreement of 18 December 1972 between the Community and Egypt,

(2) The requirements in the legislation of Egypt on health inspection and monitoring of fishery products may be considered equivalent to those laid down in Directive 91/493/EEC.

- at least 50 % of which are owned by nationals of the Member States and Egypt or by a company which has its head office in a Member State or in Egypt, of which the manager, managers,, chairman of the board, and the majority of the members of such board are nationals of the Member States or Egypt and of which, in addition, in the case of partnerships or limited companies, at least half the capital belongs to the Member States or Egypt or to public bodies or nationals of the Member States or of Egypt,

In the case of both suspect and confirmed findings of Pseudomonas solanacearum (Smith) Smith the Member States shall notify the Commission and Egypt immediately thereof;

These objectives may be reviewed by mutual agreement to take account of changes in Egypt's economic situation or in the objectives and priorities set by its development plan.

The Commission establishes whether "pest-free areas" have been approved in Egypt in accordance with the "FAO International Standard for Phytosani-tary Measures Part 4:

Written guarantees have been received from the Egyptian authorities concerning the applied sampling procedure and the reinforcement of the controls on the storage conditions for peanuts.

(2) The Agreement will replace the trade provisions laid down in the Cooperation Agreement between the Member States of the European Economic Community and Egypt signed in Brussels on 18 January 1977 fn and in the Agreement between the Member States of the European Coal and Steel Community and Egypt, signed in Brussels on 18 January 1977 fn.

The Cooperation Council shall take any appropriate measures to facilitate the necessary cooperation and contacts between the European Parliament and the representatives of the People's Assembly of Egypt.

RESOLVED to establish wide-ranging cooperation which will contribute to Egypt's economic and social development and help to strengthen relations between the Community and Egypt,

To promote participation by Egyptian undertakings in the performance of works contracts, an accelerated procedure for issuing invitations to tender involving shorter time limits for the submission of tenders may be used at the proposal of the relevant Community body where the works in question, because of their scale, are mainly of interest to Egyptian undertakings.
