EC type-examination is the procedure whereby a notified body ascertains and certifies that a model lift, or that a lift for which there is no provision for an extension or variant, satisfies the requirements of the Directive.

A manufacturer who satisfies the obligations of point 2 must ensure and declare that the products concerned conform to type as described in the EC type-examination certificate.

The manufacturer must take all measures necessary to ensure that the manufacturing process ensures that the products conform to type as described in the EC type-examination certificate.

or, if it was designed in accordance with a model lift having undergone an EC type-examination as referred to in Annex V, it shall be constructed, installed and tested by implementing:

either submit the model of the safety component for EC type-examination in accordance with Annex V and for production checks by a notified body in accordance with Annex XI;

The notified body shall examine those modifications and inform the manufacturer or his authorised representative established in the Community whether the EC type-examination certificate remains valid.

The application for EC type-examination must be lodged by the manufacturer of the safety component, or his authorized representative established in the Community, with a notified body of his choice.

In the case of an EC approval of the steering control type, in order to verify conformity, a sufficient number of production steering controls shall be subjected to random checks.

'EC type-examination certificate' is a document in which a notified body referred to in Article 10 (6) certifies that the type of equipment examined complies with the provisions of this Directive which concern it.

The manufacturer or his authorised representative established within the Community must keep with the technical documentation copies of the EC type-examination certificates and their additions for a period of 10 years after the last product has been manufactured.

The notified body may not require detailed plans or precise information not necessary for verifying the conformity of the lift about to be placed on the market with the model lift described in the EC type-examination declaration.

The manufacturer shall take all the necessary measures for the manufacturing process to ensure that the vessels conform to the type described in the EC type-examination certificate or to the design and manufacturing schedule referred to in Annex II section 3.

The manufacturer or his authorized representative established within the Community must keep with the technical documentation copies of EC type-examination certificates and their additions for at least 10 years after the last product has been manufactured.

The manufacturer shall take all measures necessary to ensure that the manufacturing process assures compliance of the manufactured equipment or protective systems with the type as described in the EC-type-examination certificate and with the relevant requirements of the Directive.

If the notified body refuses to issue an EC type-examination certificate to the manufacturer or to his authorized representative established within the Community, that body must provide detailed reasons for such refusal. Provision must be made for an appeals procedure.

The manufacturer shall take all measures necessary to ensure that the manufacturing process guarantees conformity of the equipment with the type as described in the EC-type-examination certificate and with the requirements of the Directive which apply to them.

sanctions (including types of and information regarding the status of their follow-up) imposed in accordance with Commission Regulation (EC) No 494/98(1) presented according to the type of checks made and breaches found in accordance with points 1(g) and 2(a).
