Classification by quality

When classification is by quality, wood in the rough shall be divided into quality classes according to the following classifications:

these standards may, in particular, cover classification by quality, size or weight, packing, presentation and labelling.

The classification by dimensions or by quality provided for in this Directive shall not preclude the introduction of sub-classes for marketing wood in the rough.

WHEREAS, HOWEVER, ON THE BASIS OF A MORE DETAILED APPRAISAL OF THE RANGE OF QUALITIES OF GREEK TOBACCO AND THE INTRODUCTION OF THE CLASSIFICATION OF VARIETIES OF THIS TOBACCO BY REGULATION (EEC) NO 1534/81 THIS SCALE SHOULD BE AMENDED;

Quality classification shall take into consideration the following criteria: - Bending: bending shall be measured by dividing the total bow, expressed in centimetres to the nearest centimetre, by the distance separating the two extremities of the bend, expressed in metres to one decimal place.

The third indent of point (iii) (Class II) of Part B (Classification) of title II (Provisions concerning quality) of the Annex to Regulation (EC) No 790/2000 is replaced by the following text:

Having regard to Council Regulation (EEC) No 2137/92 of 23 July 1992 concerning the Community scale for the classification of carcases of ovine animals and determining the Community standard quality of fresh or chilled sheep carcases and extending Regulation (EEC) No 338/91 (3), as last amended by Regulation (EC) No 2536/97 (4), and in particular Article 2 thereof,

whereas a scale of price increases and reductions for varieties grown in greece was introduced by annex i to the act of accession of greece into commission regulation (eec) no 1728/70 (11), as last amended by regulation (eec) no 290/81; whereas, however, on the basis of a more detailed appraisal of the range of qualities of greek tobacco and the introduction of the classification of varieties of this tobacco by regulation (eec) no 1534/81 this scale should be amended;

In cases where ordinary visual inspection fails to establish that the goods correspond to the description given in the refunds nomenclature, and where classification or the quality of the goods requires very precise information about the ingredients thereof, the customs authorities shall verify that description according to the nature of the product by using all the senses or by applying physical measures that may go as far as submitting the goods for analysis by laboratories specially equipped for the purpose.

In title II (Provisions concerning quality), part B (Classification), footnote 1 is replaced by the following:

Only tobacco corresponding to the minimum quality characteristics to be defined on the basis of classification by variety and quality shall be bought in by the intervention agencies.

the quantities bought in each week and each month, broken down by products and qualities in accordance with the Community scale for the classification of carcases established by Regulation (EEC) No 1208/81;

In order to ensure comparability of such monitoring systems, the results of the systems operated by each Member State shall be expressed as ecological quality ratios for the purposes of classification of ecological status.

whereas, in addition, the rules to be complied with in communicating the results of the classification to the supplier of the animals or to the person responsible for the slaughtering operations should be specified in order to justify the price of the carcases and to encourage the producers to promote the quality of the animals delivered by striving for a higher classification;

Whereas Regulation (EEC) No 2777/75 provides for the setting of marketing standards which may relate in particular to classification by quality and weight, packaging, storage, transport, presentation and marking of certain types of poultrymeat;

The third indent of point (iii) (Class II) of Part B (Classification) of title II (Provisions concerning quality) of the Annex to Regulation (EC) No 790/2000 is replaced by the following text: "- healed cracks not more than 3 cm in length for round, ribbed or oblong tomatoes."
