Regulation no. 178/2002 of the European Parliament and Council, laying down the general principles and requirements for food safety, as well as the Directorate General for Health and Consumer Protection (DG Sanco), explicitely stress the role of consumer organizations in food chain, resulting from the principle of consumer` s right to safe food and to accurate and true information, as well as from principle of the consumer` s responsibility for the protection of his health.
Uredba 178/2002 o splošnih zahtevah za varnost hrane Evropskega Sveta in Parlamenta, kakor tudi Generalni Direktorat za varno hrano in zdravje ter zaščito potrošnikov (DG Sanco) posebej poudarjata vlogo potrošniških organizacij v živilski verigi, izhajajoč iz načela pravica potrošnika do varne hrane in točnih ter resničnih informacij, kakor tudi iz načela odgovornosti potrošnika do varovanja lastnega zdravja.
