fresh meat of domestic animals of the following species: bovine animals, swine, sheep and goats and solipeds.

'meat' means all parts of domestic bovine animals, swine, sheep and goats and solipeds which are fit for human consumption;

Member States shall authorise the imports from Bulgaria of domestic ovine and caprine animals for immediate slaughter.

Whereas it is important to establish as a first step the rules for staging points accommodating domestic solipeds and domestic animals of the bovine, ovine, caprine and porcine species;

for domestic ovine and caprine animals for immediate slaughter intended for consignment to the European Community

Whereas it is possible to authorise the imports of domestic ovine and caprine animals for immediate slaughter without risk of spreading these diseases;

for fresh meat (1) of bovine animals, sheep, goats and domestic solipeds intended for consignment to the European Community

for domestic ovine and caprine animals for immediate slaughter intended for consignment to the European Economic Community

Fresh meat means all parts fit for human consumption from domestic animals of the ovine and caprine species which have not undergone any preserving process;

for fresh meat (1) of domestic animals of the bovine, porcine, ovine and caprine species, intended for consignment to the European Economic Community

This Directive shall apply to intra-Community trade in fresh meat of domestic bovine animals, swine, sheep and goats and solipeds.

in the case of fresh meat from domestic bovine, porcine, sheep and goats, the requirements of Council Directive 64/433/EEC (1),

laying down a model for the animal health conditions and veterinary certification for the importation of domestic ovine and caprine animals from third countries

for fresh meat of domestic animals of the bovine, porcine, ovine and caprine species and solipeds intended for purposes other than human consumption and intended for consignment to the European Community

Member States shall authorize the import of domestic animals of the ovine and caprine species which meet the requirements of the animal health certificate set out in Annex II, Part 1a in respect of fattening animals.

Member States shall authorize the import of domestic animals of the ovine and caprine species which meet the requirements of the animal health certificate set out in Annex II, Part 1b in respect of breeding animals.

In consequence importation of de-boned fresh meat of bovine, ovine and caprine species and farmed and wild ungulates should be temporarily suspended from the previously approved zones of Botswana.

'Fine animal hair' means the hair of alpaca, llama, vicuna, camel, yak, Angora, Tibetan, Kashmir or similar goats (but not common goats), rabbit (including Angora rabbit), hare, beaver, nutria or musk-rat;

'Member States shall authorize the import of domestic animals of the ovine and caprine species which meet the requirements of the animal health certificate set out in Parts 1a and 1b of Annex I in respect of slaughter animals.

Fresh meat means all parts fit for human consumption from domestic animals of the bovine, porcine, ovine and caprine species, which have not undergone any preserving process;

However, while the outcome of this assessment is not available it is not possible to regionalise Botswana to allow importation of de-boned fresh meat of bovine, ovine and caprine species and farmed and wild ungulates.

Member States shall authorize the import of domestic animals of the ovine and caprine species which meet the requirements of the animal health certificate set out in Part 1 (a) and (b) of the Annex in respect of slaughter animals.

Where the journey time of eight hours laid down in Chapter VII(2) of the Annex to Directive 91/628/EEC is exceeded, road vehicles used for the transportation of domestic solipeds and animals of the bovine, ovine, caprine and porcine species within the Community must comply with the additional requirements set out in the Annex to this Regulation.

Member States shall authorise the importation from the Falkland Islands of fresh meat of bovine animals, sheep, goats and domestic solipeds conforming to the requirements in the animal health certificate laid down in the Annex to this Decision.

Commission Decision 93/198/EEC (5), as last amended by Decision 97/231/EC (6), lays down the animal health conditions and veterinary certification for imports of domestic ovine and caprine animals.

COMMISSION DECISION of 3 March 1997 amending Decision 93/198/EEC laying down a model for the animal health conditions and veterinary certification for the importation of domestic ovine and caprine animals from third countries

Whereas Commission Decision 93/198/EEC (4), as last amended by the Act of Accession of Austria, Finland and Sweden, lays down the animal health conditions and veterinary certification for imports of domestic ovine and caprine animals;

Meat obtained from domestic sheep, goats or solipeds must, without, prejudice to Article 6, come from animals which have stayed in the territory of the Community for at least twenty-one days immediately prior to slaughter or from birth in the case of animals less than twenty-one days old.

Member States shall authorize the importation from the United States of America of fresh meat of bovine animals, swine, sheep, goats and domestic solipeds conforming to the guarantees laid down in an animal health certificate which accords with the Annex hereto and which must accompany the consignment.

(2) Commission Decision 93/198/EEC of 17 February 1993, as last amended by Decision 2002/261/EC fn, lays down a model for the animal health conditions and veterinary certification for the importation of domestic ovine and caprine animals from third countries fn.

Whereas it is necessary, when domestic solipeds and domestic animals of the bovine, ovine, caprine and porcine species are transported on journeys exceeding eight hours, to lay down standards applicable to the type of transport covered by this Regulation additional to those laid down in Chapter VII(3) of the Annex to Directive 91/628/EEC for the means of transport used;

It may also provide for measures to support milk production in the sheep and goat sector, to structure that sector, alleviate difficulties in the processing and marketing of local farm cheeses made from ewe's and goat's milk, rectify the fragmentation of supply, improve the quality of milk and assist diversification.

Furthermore Member States shall authorize the import of domestic animals of the ovine and caprine species intended for fattening or breeding only if they satisfy the requirements of Annex II, Part 1c, Chapter 1, if destined for officially brucellosis-free flocks, or Annex II, Part 1c, Chapter 2, if destined for brucellosis-free flocks or come from a third country listed in the Annex, Part 5, to Decision 97/232/EC.

(3) An outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease was confirmed in Botswana in the approved EC zone number 6 on 7 January 2003, with the initial infection on the holding detected on 23 December 2002, and the competent veterinary authority of Botswana immediately suspended exports of de-boned fresh meat of bovine, ovine and caprine species and farmed and wild ungulates to the Community from the whole of the country.

This Regulation shall apply only to staging points accommodating for at least 24 hours domestic solipeds and domestic animals of the bovine, ovine, caprine and porcine species in the Community in accordance with Chapter VII of the Annex to Directive 91/628/EEC and without prejudice to Directives 64/432/EEC (2), 80/213/EEC (3), 85/511/EEC (4), 89/608/EEC (5), 90/425/EEC (6), 90/426/EEC (7), 91/68/EEC (8), 91/496/EEC (9), 92/102/EEC (10) and 93/119/EC (11).

(3) Commission Decision 2002/261/EC of 25 March 2002 amending Decision 93/198/EEC laying down a model for the animal health conditions and veterinary certification for the import of domestic ovine and caprine animals from third countries and amending Annex E to Council Directive 91/68/EEC laying down the animal health conditions governing intra-Community trade in ovine and caprine animals fn, as corrected by OJ L 94, 11.4.2002, p. 34, is to be incorporated into the Agreement.
