In particular, the Community industry's sales volume on the Community market developed as follows:

The sales volume of the Community industry followed a similar trend in this period, the decline between 1999 and 2000 being however less marked than the decrease in consumption in these years.

Indeed, the sales volume of the Community industry only increased by 5 % between 1994 and the investigation period, whilst the Community market went up by 2 7 % during the same period.

Indeed, during the IIP, the Community industry's sales volume did not follow the growing trend of the market and only increased by 21 % whilst the Community consumption expanded by 54 %.

The Community industry's sales volume of own-produced potash to unrelated customers decreased from around 5 530000 tonnes in 1994 to around 5 260000 tonnes during the IP.

The sales volume of the Community industry to unrelated customers in the Community evolved from 5,9 million in 1995 and 1996, to 5,4 million in 1997 and 1998, to 5,3 million in 1999 and 5,5 million during the IP.

The sales volume of the product concerned sold at a net sales price equal to or above the calculated cost of production ('profitable sales') represented 80 % or more of the total sales volume and the weighted average price of that type was above cost of production.

The sales volume of third countries other than those included in the current investigation decreased by 63 % during the period considered, mainly due to the decrease in imports from the countries subject to anti-dumping measures.

Indeed, sales of TCHs by Japanese exporting producers in the Community increased considerably in terms of volume between 1995 and the investigation period, i.e. by 157%, reaching around 600 units during the investigation period.

Volume of sales and market share

The volume of sales represents the value of turnover in constant prices and as such is a quantity index.

5 Sales below per unit costs are made in substantial quantities when the authorities establish that the weighted average selling price of the transactions under consideration for the determination of the normal value is below the weighted average per unit costs, or that the volume of sales below per unit costs represents not less than 20 per cent of the volume sold in transactions under consideration for the determination of the normal value.

(c) the exportation or sale for export by an enterprise of products, whether specified in terms of particular products, in terms of volume or value of products, or in terms of a proportion of volume or value of its local production.

2 Sales of the like product destined for consumption in the domestic market of the exporting country shall normally be considered a sufficient quantity for the determination of the normal value if such sales constitute 5 per cent or more of the sales of the product under consideration to the importing Member, provided that a lower ratio should be acceptable where the evidence demonstrates that domestic sales at such lower ratio are nonetheless of sufficient magnitude to provide for a proper comparison.

Food production chain includes all phases of food production (including farmed animal production prior to slaughter, growing arable crops, vegetables, fruit, hunting, fishing and harvesting wild products) processing, preparation and catering and marketing (including import, storage, transport, distribution, sale or supply) of food/foodstuffs.

Factors which may be relevant in this respect include, inter alia, the volume and prices of imports not sold at dumping prices, contraction in demand or changes in the patterns of consumption, trade restrictive practices of and competition between the foreign and domestic producers, developments in technology and the export performance and productivity of the domestic industry.
