'varietal association' means an association of certified seed of a specified pollinator-dependant hybrid officially admitted under Directive 2002/53/EC with certified seed of one or more specified pollinator(s), similarly admitted, and mechanically combined in proportions jointly determined by the persons responsible for the maintenance of these components, such combination having been notified to the certification authority;

Component varieties shall be indicated as such.

The conditions under which the provisions of paragraph 1 shall also apply to other component varieties may be determined in accordance with the procedure referred to in Article 23(2).

These catalogues must be drawn up in accordance with uniform rules so that the varieties accepted will be distinct, stable and sufficiently uniform.

In the meantime, in the case of cereals other than maize, Member States may themselves apply those provisions to other component varieties in respect of seed intended for certification in their territories.

whereas, therefore, blends of hop cones should be authorized only if they consist of certified products of the same variety coming from the same harvest and the same production area;

These catalogues must be drawn up in accordance with uniform rules so that the varieties accepted will be distinct, stable and sufficiently uniform and that they will be of satisfactory value for cultivation and use.

For the 2000/01 marketing year, areas sown with certified seed of varieties and variety associations listed in Annex II to Regulation (EC) No 658/96 shall also be eligible for area payments.

It is necessary to clarify the position regarding variety associations of colza and rape seed and certain other categories of seed.

(d) Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein shall establish a classification scheme of vine varieties drawn up in accordance with the principles laid down in Article 13;

certified seed of double zero variety associations the components of which have been notified and entered where appropriate as double zero in the Common Catalogue of Varieties of Agricultural Plant Species;

where the name of the variety or its synonym is composed of several words, such composite name or synonym shall be printed on the label, without the interposition of any other information, in uniform letters of the same size on one or more lines;

weight of the aggregate sample = 30 kg which has to be mixed and to be divided into three equal subsamples of 10 kg before grinding (this division into three subsamples is not necessary in the case of groundnuts, nuts and dried fruit intended for further sorting or other physical treatment, however, this will depend upon the availability of equipment which is able to homogenise a 30 kg sample).

the information required under section (a), except that instead of the name of the variety, the name of the varietal association shall be (information 'varietal association' and its name) and the percentages by weight of the various components shown by variety shall be given;

"(aa) For certified seed of a varietal association:

Varietal associations of oil and fibre plants came within the scope of Directive 2002/57/EC.

Member States shall permit seed of species of oil and fibre plants to be marketed in the form of a varietal association.

Varietal associations of oil and fibre plants species should be included in the scope of Directive 2002/57/EC(3).

'pollinator(s)' means the component shedding pollen within the 'varietal association' (male component).

'pollinator-dependant hybrid' means the male-sterile component within the 'varietal association' (female component);

However, the labelling provisions of that Directive do not adequately provide for the labelling of seeds of varietal associations.

where the name of the variety or its synonym is composed of several words, such composite name or synonym shall be printed on the label, without the interposition of any other information, in uniform letters of the same size on one or two lines.

it shall be sufficient to give the name of the varietal association if the percentage by weight has been notified in writing to the purchaser, on request, and officially recorded."

in Article 12(1)(a), the following sentence shall be inserted after the second sentence: "In the case of certified seed of a varietal association, the label shall be blue with a diagonal green line;

The term "Cabernet" may be used as a synonym for Cabernet Franc or Cabernet Sauvignon when the two varieties are blended together to produce a single-varietal wine, or when the combined volume of both varieties would permit its use in dual-varietal or triple-varietal wine.

Accordingly, to provide for a specific labelling of seed of varietal associations, Directive 2002/57/EC should be amended to include adequate labelling requirements for varietal associations.

The conditions to be satisfied by the varietal associations, including the colour of the official label required for packages of certified seed of varietal associations, should also be defined.

Article 42(5) of Regulation (EC) No 1493/1999 permits grapes other than those of the wine-grape varieties listed in the classification established in accordance with Article 19 of that Regulation, or products derived therefrom, to be used in the Community for the manufacture of the products listed in Article 42(5).

are taken within ICES Division IIIa, consist of a mixture only of sprat and herring, are not sorted and the herring does not exceed 10 % by weight of the total combined weight of herring and sprat caught by such gears and retained on board or;

are taken within ICES Sub-area IV, consist of a mixture of herring and other species, are not sorted and the herring does not exceed 20 % by weight of the total combined weight of herring and other species caught by such gears and retained on board or;

may not be retained on board unless such catches consist of a mixture of herring and other species, are not sorted, and the herring does not exceed 45 % by weight of the total combined weight of herring and other species caught by such gears and retained on board.

Owing to the increased importance in the Community of such seed, the Commission adopted Decision 95/232/EC(4) with the aim of establishing the conditions to be satisfied by the seed of hybrids and varietal associations of swede rape and turnip rape.

are taken outside ICES Sub-area IV or ICES Division IIIa, consist of a mixture of herring and other species, are not sorted and the herring does not exceed 10 % by weight of the total combined weight of herring and other species caught by such gears and retained on board.

are taken within ICES Division IIIa, consist of a mixture of herring and other species whether or not including sprat, are not sorted and the herring does not exceed 5 % by weight of the total combined weight of the herring and other species caught by such gears and retained on board or;

until such time as a common catalogue of varieties can be introduced, restrict the marketing of propagation material to those varieties which are entered in a national list based on value for cropping and use in their territory;

The term "Muscat" may be used as a synonym for any Muscat grape variety of the species Vitis vinifera to produce a single-varietal wine, or any blend of Muscat grape varieties of the species Vitis vinifera when their combined volume would permit its use in a single-varietal, dual-varietal or triple-varietal wine.

(b)the following subparagraph is added to paragraph 4: 'Until the list of varieties referred to in the second subparagraph of paragraph 1 is established, wines produced in the territory of the former German Democratic Republic, derived from varieties traditionally grown in that territory and of the species Vitis vinifera, shall be regarded as suitable for processing into quality wines psr.' IV.Council Regulation (EEC) No 2389/89 of 24 July 1989 (OJ No L 232, 9.8.1989, p. 1).

The ploidy of both seed-bearing and pollen-shedding components of seed-producing crops is to be established by reference to the common catalogue of varieties of agricultural plant species compiled under Council Directive 70/457/EEC (1), as last amended by Directive 86/155/EEC (2), or the national catalogues of varieties established under that Directive.

Herring caught by Community fishing vessels when fishing in ICES Divisions IIIb, or IIIc or ICES Division IIId to the west of 16° E with nets of minimum mesh size less than 32 mm may not be retained on board unless such catches consist of a mixture of herring and other species, are not sorted, and the herring does not exceed 20 % by weight of the total combined weight of herring and other species caught by such gears and retained on board.

Commission Decision 95/232/EC of 27 June 1995 on the organisation of a temporary experiment under Council Directive 69/208/EEC in order to establish conditions to be satisfied by the seed of hybrids and varietal associations of swede rape and turnip rape(3), as last amended by Directive 2002/68/EC, aims at, inter alia, establishing the conditions to be satisfied by the seed of hybrids of swede rape for certification and marketing under Community legislation.

Article 3(1) of Council Regulation (EEC) No 619/71 of 22 March 1971 laying down general rules for granting aid for flax and hemp(3), as last amended by Regulation (EC) No 1420/98(4), stipulates that production aid is to be granted solely on hemp harvested after seed formation and grown from certified seed of varieties on a list to be drawn up in accordance with the procedure laid down in Article 12 of Council Regulation (EEC) No 1308/70 of 29 June 1970 on the common organisation of the market in flax and hemp(5), as last amended by Regulation (EC) No 2702/1999(6).
