The normal frequency of these verifications must be consistent with the arrangements (if any) accepted under paragraph 1.2. or 1.3. of this Appendix and be such as to ensure that the relevant controls are reviewed over a period consistent with the climate of trust established by the approval authority.

Particulate influx over time will cause the pump slip to decrease, as reflected by lower values for m. Therefore, calibration shall be performed at pump start-up, after major maintenance, and if the total system verification (section 2.4) indicates a change of the slip rate.

In the case of the situation described in point 6.4 above, or when verification cannot be carried out because the vehicle manufacturer has failed to provide data on the position of the R point, the average result of the three determinations of the H point may be used and considered applicable in all cases where the R point is mentioned in this Directive.

((The conditions for verifying the acceptability of the ETC tests (see Annex III, Appendix 2, section 3.9) when measuring the emissions of gas fuelled engines against the limit values applicable in row A shall be re-examined and, where necessary, modified in accordance with the procedure laid down in Article 13 of Directive 70/156/EEC.))

Commission Decision 1999/518/EC(5) further amended the inspection measures at Community border inspection posts to include specific testing for stilbenes following the detection by the competent authorities of Switzerland of diethylstilboestrol (DES) in beef meat imported from the United States.

With the agreement of the authority, all other engines type approved to row A, B1 or B2, or C of the tables in section 6.2.1 are subjected to testing either on the ESC and ELR cycles or on the ETC cycle for the checking of the production conformity. The limit values are given in section 6.2.1 of this Annex.

For motor vehicles equipped with on-board diagnostic systems in accordance with Directive 98/69/EC, Member States may as an alternative to the test specified in item (a) establish the correct functioning of the emission system through the appropriate reading of the OBD device and simultaneous checking of the proper functioning of the OBD system."

After verification of the general specifications (section 6 of Annex 0) and the specifications of shape and dimensions (Annex VI), the 10 samples shall be examined as to their colorimetric charac teristics (Annex VII) and CIL (Annex VIII) for an angle of divergence of 20' and an illumination angle V = H = 0ş or if necessary, in the position defined in VIII.4 and VIII.4.1.

The checking of the relationship between the two points shall be considered satisfactory for the seating position in question, provided the H point coordinates lie within a longitudinal rectangle whose horizontal and vertical sides are 30 mm and 20 mm respectively, and whose diagonals intersect at the R point. If this is the case the R point shall be used for the test and, if necessary, the manikin shall be so adjusted that the H point coincides with the R point.

To verify specific dimensions on or within a vehicle submitted for type-approval in accordance with this Directive, the relationship between the coordinates of the three-dimensional reference grid defined in 2.3 of Annex I, which have been laid out at the initial vehicle-design stage, and the positions of the primary reference marks defined in 2.4 of Annex I, must be established accurately so that specific points on the vehicle manufacturer's drawings can be located on an actual vehicle produced from those drawings.

TO VERIFY SPECIFIC DIMENSIONS ON OR WITHIN A VEHICLE SUBMITTED FOR TYPE-APPROVAL IN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS DIRECTIVE, THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE COORDINATES OF THE THREE-DIMENSIONAL REFERENCE GRID DEFINED IN 2.3 OF ANNEX I, WHICH HAVE BEEN LAID OUT AT THE INITIAL VEHICLE-DESIGN STAGE, AND THE POSITIONS OF THE PRIMARY REFERENCE MARKS DEFINED IN 2.4 OF ANNEX I, MUST BE ESTABLISHED ACCURATELY SO THAT SPECIFIC POINTS ON THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURER'S DRAWINGS CAN BE LOCATED ON AN ACTUAL VEHICLE PRODUCED FROM THOSE DRAWINGS.

Member States shall carry out frequent official inspections to verify the correct application of this Part and shall ensure that measures are taken to avoid any contamination, particularly in slaughterhouses, cutting plants, animal waste processing plants, high-risk processing plants or premises approved by the Member States in accordance with Article 7 of Directive 90/667/EEC, butcher shops registered in accordance with point 6, landfill sites and other facilities for storage or incineration.

Where the subsystem meets the requirements of Directive 96/48/EC and the TSI, the notified body must then, based on the tests, verifications and checkings carried out on all serial products as indicated in point 7 and required in the TSI and in the European specification referred to in Article 10 of Directive 96/48/EC, draw up the certificate of EC verification intended for the adjudicating entity or its authorised representative established within the Community, which in turn draws up the EC declaration of verification intended for the supervisory authority in the Member State where the subsystem is located and/or operates.
